A New Era

Unveiling Marquee Arts: A New Era of Cultural Enrichment in Ann Arbor

In the realm of cultural institutions, few names resonate as profoundly in Ann Arbor as the State and Michigan Theaters. For decades, our theaters have served as beacons of artistic expression, weaving together the fabric of community through a diverse array of performances, film screenings, and events. However, as times evolve and artistic landscapes shift, the organization has embarked on a transformative journey, culminating in the unveiling of its new identity: Marquee Arts.

A Journey Through Time: The Legacy of the Michigan Theater Foundation

Since its inception as a nonprofit in 1979, the Michigan Theater Foundation has been synonymous with cultural and economic vitality in Ann Arbor. From its historic inception, the foundation has tirelessly worked to enrich the lives of its patrons, fostering a deep connection between the arts and the community it serves. The iconic Michigan Theater, with its architectural splendor, has served as the epicenter of this cultural renaissance, hosting a myriad of performances and screenings that have left an indelible mark on the regional arts scene.

Similarly, the State Theater, with its charming architecture and diverse film offerings since 1942, has been a cornerstone of the local arts and entertainment scene. Its commitment to showcasing everything from independent releases to classic and cult favorites has made it a beloved institution among cinephiles and casual moviegoers alike.

The Evolution Unveiled: Marquee Arts

The transition from the Michigan Theater Foundation to Marquee Arts signifies more than just a name change; it heralds a new chapter in the organization’s storied history. Rooted in the spirit of innovation, inclusivity, and artistic excellence, Marquee Arts is poised to redefine the cultural landscape of Ann Arbor and beyond.

Key Elements of the Rebranding

New Website and Enhanced Digital Presence: Marquee Arts is committed to providing patrons with easier access to event information, online content, and interactive engagement opportunities through a newly redesigned website and expanded social media presence.

New Logos and Visual Identity: The introduction of dynamic and contemporary logos for the Michigan and State Theaters, Towsley Society, Cinetopia, and the family-friendly Not Just For Kids series reflects Marquee Arts’ commitment to staying at the forefront of cultural trends while honoring its rich heritage.

Continuing the Mission: Marquee Arts remains steadfast in its dedication to building community, protecting historic theaters, and advancing public storytelling and the arts.

Innovative Programming: While upholding its tradition of delivering high-quality performances and screenings, Marquee Arts will introduce new and innovative programs that cater to diverse tastes and demographics, setting new standards in cultural programming.

Looking to the Future

As Marquee Arts, the organization envisions a future where the arts serve as a catalyst for positive change and community building. By fostering creativity, supporting emerging artists, and creating spaces that inspire dialogue and connection, Marquee Arts aims to shape the cultural landscape of Ann Arbor and southeast Michigan for generations to come.

The inaugural season under the new identity promises a lineup that reflects the diversity and dynamism that Marquee Arts stands for, inviting the community to join in the celebration of this transformative rebranding. With its eyes set on the horizon, Marquee Arts is poised to embark on an exciting journey, weaving together the threads of tradition and innovation to create a tapestry of cultural enrichment unlike any other.

Marquee Arts Presents is intensifying its commitment to enriching the cultural landscape of our community by significantly expanding investments in the creation of captivating live theatrical experiences. This endeavor encompasses a multifaceted approach, encompassing diverse productions aimed at engaging audiences of all kinds. Moreover, the outcomes of our endeavors have proven fruitful with the successful re-establishment of the Cinetopia Film Festival for 2024 onwards, reinvigorating the cinematic scene that had lain dormant since its cessation in 2020. As we progress, we eagerly anticipate reaching the historic milestone of the Michigan Theater’s 100th anniversary, an occasion that holds immense significance not only for the theater itself but also for the vibrant tapestry of arts and entertainment in our region. This milestone marks a momentous occasion to reflect on the theater’s rich legacy while embracing its future potential to continue captivating audiences for generations to come.
