About us

A shining light for the arts

Marquee Arts is a Michigan-based nonprofit committed to keeping community inspiration alive through the preservation and programming of historic theaters.

Curators of film, theater and live entertainment, we proudly oversee the operations, upkeep and artistic direction of the State and Michigan theaters in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Marquee Arts is the founding entity for Michigan’s Cinetopia Film Festival and curator of the always-on series of theater productions, Not Just For Kids. While both theaters serve as community hubs, the Michigan’s main auditorium hosts the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, the University of Michigan’s University Musical Society, the Ann Arbor Concert Band, the Ark, Live Nation Worldwide and many more.

Rooted in Michigan’s artistic history, the organization is committed to producing state of the art creative programming, unparalleled in diversity, quality and scope.

OUR MISSION

With joy and in partnership, we bring diverse people together to:

  • Build community
  • Protect our two historic theaters
  • Advance public storytelling and the arts

Our Core Values

Our collective aim is to ignite inspiration in all of us through individual and shared experiences with art. We do this through our guiding values:

Respect the Individual – We pledge to be inclusive and work to be welcoming. Our staff values diversity and seeks to understand biases. We aspire to live by the Platinum Rule (Do to others as they would prefer to have done to them).

The Show Must Go On – We strive to be resourceful, courageous and adaptable –especially when things don’t go as planned. We show up and work hard every day, every show, for every customer, client and co-worker. It is our goal to have great attitudes; be joyful, nice and enthusiastic.

Row! Together! – Oars in, take direction and work together –naturally. The Team, The Team, The Team means we subdue our ego and focus on the team. We do our jobs first, in concert, but look for ways to help one another. It is important that we AABI (Ah-bye) –Always Assume Best Intentions.

360 Stewardship – Work to protect our historic buildings. We push ourselves to be results drive, goal oriented and seek to add value (pecuniary and otherwise).

Advocate of Arts and Community – We love to celebrate arthouse cinema, public storytelling and the arts. We aid in joyfully enhancing understanding, cultural connection and community. And understand that: “…a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead
