Accessibility

Both the Michigan and State Theaters are dedicated to providing an inclusive, accessible experience for all guests.

Assistive Listening: Radio Frequency (R.F.) listening devices are available at the Michigan Theater Guest Services desk 30 minutes before all Main Auditorium shows. A driver’s license or credit card is required as a deposit. 

Descriptive Audio: Available only in the Michigan Theater’s Main Auditorium. 

Open Captions: Offered for most film screenings on Wednesdays, where available by title. 

Closed Captions: Captioning devices (small, easy-to-read LED screens) are available for use in the Michigan Theater’s Main Auditorium and Screening Room, and in all four State Theatre auditoriums.

Live Events

The Michigan Theater presents concerts, comedy, talks, and special community programs year-round.

Bag Policy

To ensure the safety and comfort of all guests, large bags, backpacks, and oversized purses are not permitted inside the theaters.

  • Small handbags, clutches, and necessary medical or childcare bags are allowed and may be inspected at entry.
  • Outside food and beverages are not permitted.
  • Coat check is not available, so please plan accordingly before arrival.

Hours of Operation

Hours vary based on film and event schedules.

Doors open approximately 30 minutes before the first showtime of the day.

Our administrative offices are open Tuesday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00PM.

The Barton Organ

The Michigan Theater proudly houses a fully restored 1928 Barton Theatre Pipe Organ — one of the last of its kind still played in its original home.

Enjoy live performances before select classic films and during silent film screenings throughout the year.
