Sasha Velour: The Big Reveal Show

ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN – Sasha Velour, a world-renowned drag performer, will serve up 90 minutes of dramatic, thought-provoking, and earth-shaking reveals in The Big Reveal Live Show! The performance will take place on January 17 at 8 pm at the Michigan Theater’s historic Main Auditorium. Ticket prices range from $27-$92. Upgrades for $50 per person are available for a Meet-and-Greet with Velour before the show and an exclusive art print. To purchase tickets, please visit here

Through theatrical stage tricks and emotional revelations that catch the audience off-guard, Velour delivers surprise after surprise. A true chameleon when it comes to form and style, the show’s musical selections range from Stevie Wonder to Britney Spears, from Steven Sondheim to Deep Purple.  Sasha’s performances take on different forms over the course of the evening—classic drag, storytelling, video experimentation, and more. Don’t miss this exciting evening, inspired in part by Velour’s recent best-selling book (which will be on sale in the lobby)! “The Big Reveal Live Show” runs for one act with no intermission. The show is suitable for all ages. Surprise special guests announced for each show.

This performance is sponsored by the Center for the Education of Women+, as well as general sponsorship by Arbor Brewing and Michigan Medicine

Sasha Velour, who is gender-fluid and uses she/her pronouns in drag, gained national attention in 2017 when she won season 9 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, a television show. Velour’s 2023 book The Big Reveal: An Illustrated Manifesto of Drag explores the history of drag, including New York’s Ballroom Scene and Stonewall’s uprising, and the history of queer life around the world. Sasha hosted the 4th season of the HBO series “We’re Here,” which presents drag and raises awareness about LGBTQ+ identities across small-town America. Velour grew up in a small town in Illinois.

Drag performance enjoys more popularity than ever in the U.S. while at the same time drawing criticism and scrutiny. Sasha Velour describes drag from beginning to end as an art form and a very needed escape from reality. According to the ACLU, over 20 states have introduced bills banning drag performances.
